Spain Case study – Tackling energy poverty through a run for energy and energy audits in Cornellà de Llobregat [Sep. 2019]

2015 - Ongoing

In order to tackle its rising energy poverty, the city of Cornellà de Llobregat reframed its traditional charity run into a “Run for energy”, to collect funds for energy audits in vulnerable households. The audits involved individual energy diagnosis and training, billing optimisation and installation of low-consumption materials. The consumption of the households audited is done by the city’s Energy Efficiency Office to determine the effectiveness of the measures in decreasing energy bills and consumption.

Policy Type: Awareness raising

  • A charity race transformed into an awareness-raising campaign about energy poverty
  • Making domestic energy consumption more visible by linking it with human energy consumption when exercising
  • Fostering solidarity between citizens and vulnerable households affected by energy poverty
  • Tangible financial and energy savings in energy-poor homes thanks to targeted energy audits
