As part of the European Union’s 2030 climate and energy package, the EU Member States are required to develop energy and climate strategies (NECPs). Following the launch of the European Green Deal and the publication of the EU Climate Law proposal, this session will discuss their implications on the NECPs and climate and energy targets. Building on the European Commission’s final revision of the plans in the second half of 2020, the session will elaborate on the level of ambition put forward by the Member States, and on the role of civil society in upscaling climate action guided by the European Climate Law.

This webinar will also examine the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the NECPs and discuss how various financing opportunities such as the proposed Just Transition Mechanism, and the recovery plan can be aligned with the NECPs to deliver both economic recovery and green transition.

A critical eye will be cast on the ambition of the final NECPs, addressing energy efficiency, renewables, and emissions reductions in light of the European Climate Law.
